Workshop: Anyone Can Write About Food
December 7, 2022 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
In the beloved Pixar movie, Ratatouille’s muse, Chef Gusteau, has a motto: Anyone Can Cook! With this as our inspiration for food writing, we’ll learn about the genre, explore story types, identify comment elements, try our hand at writing and sharing food vignettes, and workshop food story pitches for publication. You’ll take home resources and exercises, and more than an inkling as to why attending to food writing can elevate all writing.
Join us on Wednesday, December 7 from 6:30-8:00pm at Forbes Library in Northampton. Registration is not required, but if you know you’re going to come, please let us know by writing to strawdogreg@gmail.com so that we can anticipate how much food and how many copies of materials to bring. Please complete THIS pre- workshop questionnaire
Carol Connare bio: By necessity, Carol Connare learned to write and to cook at a relatively young age. Years later, as food editor for Yankee magazine, she gleefully discovered she could combine two of her favorite things (enjoy food and write about it) and earn a living! Educated by way of Boston College, University of New Hampshire, Boston University, and UMass Amherst, yet somehow never managing to earn a master’s degree, Connare teaches advanced writing at UMass Amherst, since 2011. She first came to UMass in 2003 as editor of the alumni magazine, and, since 2010, has been director of communication for the largest publicly-supported research library in New England, including serving as editor of the library’s Bookmark magazine, where you usually can find a food story or two.
