SUMMARY:Writers Tools: Scrivener\, MS Word and Google Docs
DESCRIPTION:A lecture/discussion of three common tools used by writers: Grammerly’s scrivener\, Microsoft’s Word\, and Google’s Docs.  \n  \nNorth Amherst Library Community Room \nFebruary 4th\, 7-8:30 pm \nThe presentation will demonstrate the various strengths and weaknesses of the three tools\, using either a display projector or screen sharing in zoom.  \n  \nThe presenter will provide recommendation for the use of the three tools. Participants will not be expected to use the software\, but to view the presentation and ask questions about each tool. Time will be allotted for ample questions and answers. (Note that the presentation will be delivered in Windows\, but screen shots of Mac versions of Scrivener will be incorporated into the presentation.) \n \nDon Lesser has an M.F.A. In fiction from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Professionally\, he has been a computer technical writer\, a corporate trainer\, and a food writer in addition to writing manuals and delivering classes in computer software in MS-DOS and all versions of Windows software. His novel\, Crystal Springs\, will be published in February 2026 by Rootstock Press.

Join veteran SF writer James Cambias for a step-by-step breakdown of how to make convincing and interesting worlds for your stories\, while still respecting realism and scientific accuracy. We’ll go through making worlds to fit a particular story\, and fitting the story to an existing world. Participants will learn about key resources for building planets and aliens\, and pitfalls to avoid. \nBorn in New Orleans\, educated at the University of Chicago\, Mr. Cambias has been a professional science fiction writer since 2000.
