DESCRIPTION:FEATURED READER – \nGail Thomas has published three books of poetry\, Waving Back\, No Simple Wilderness: An Elegy for Swift River Valley\, and Finding the Bear.  Published in 2105\, Waving Back was awarded Honorable Mention by the New England Book Festival and includes poems that won the James Hearst Prize and the Pat Schneider Prize. \nHer work has appeared in many journals and anthologies\, and she was awarded residencies at the MacDowell Colony in New Hampshire and Ucross in Wyoming. \nHer book\, No Simple Wilderness\, about the drowning of towns and villages in Western Massachusetts in the 1930’s to provide drinking water for Boston has been used as a text in college courses.  As one of the original teaching artists for the state’s Elder Arts Initiative\, Gail has collaborated with musicians\, dancers\, and storytellers across the state.  She is a frequent presenter at conferences and a featured reader at libraries\, bookstores\, cafes\, and schools. \nDoors open at 7 – with an open mic. \nIf you’d like a chance to read\, place your name in the hat up until 7:10. Ten names will be randomly selected. The reading starts at 7:15\, and each reader will have five minutes. \nAdmission is free; participants are encouraged to buy a drink in support of the venue. \nPlease join us! DESCRIPTION:The Easy Way to  \nWrite 30 Poems in 30 Days \n For Fun and Your Favorite Non-Profit!*  \n(namely – *The Center for New Americans) \nA Workshop for Poets and Non-Poets Alike \nby Tommy Twilite \n  \nSaturday Noon-2pm\, October 14th\, 2017 \nGreat Falls Discovery Center\, Turners Falls MA \nas part of the \nThe Great Falls Word Festival in Turners Falls\nUsing simple prompts\, found objects\, family photographs\, musical compositions\, blind luck\, and a small amount of consistent effort and imagination\, Tommy will demonstrate some of the “tricks of the trade” he used to complete his wildly successful 2016 campaign to write “30 Poems In November” and how he was able to lead the Center For New Americans effort to far surpassing its fundraising goals.  The emphasis of this 90-minute workshop will be on having fun\, and on using your creativity and positive energy to fulfill your own dream of writing 30 Poems in 30 Days. Feedback\, discussion\, and participation from the group is expected and strongly encouraged.   \n\nTommy Twilite\, a.k.a. Tom Clark\, is a retired Fire Captain\, former EMT\, woodworker\, amateur chef\, vintage car enthusiast\, musician\, songwriter and poet who lives in Florence\, Massachusetts.  He is the Co-founder and Director of the Florence PoetsSocietyy and Executive Editor of Silkworm.  Tommy broadcasts a weekly radio show on WXOJ-FM Valley Free Radio called the Twilite Poetry Pub which features an eclectic selection of music\, poetry\, and guests.  He was also the 2016 chairperson for “30 Poems In November”\, a fundraising event for the Center For New Americans.  Tommy believes that poetry has the power to change the world.
